Frequently asked questions

How long & how much are your kayak rentals?

We offer a 2-hour rental. Single kayaks for $35 Tandems for $56. Stand Up Paddle Boards for $35

Is the Arkansas River safe?

Just like any outdoor activity, kayaking the Arkansas River is safe at times and can be dangerous at others. We monitor river flows and only allow people to kayak in safe waters and at safe times. Most people do not realize that the Arkansas River through downtown Little Rock is more of a lake during the summer. Since the Murray Lock and Dam was built we now can forecast controlled water flows from the Corps of Engineers to ensure that we only offer kayak tours and rentals at safe water levels. During these safe water levels you will also see wake boarding, water skiing and Wake surfing right here in the middle of Little Rock on the Arkansas River! Our primary goal is for the Arkansas River to become an accessible recreational destination where families can safely play in the waters that have shaped our city. The river is not something to fear, but rather something to respect and enjoy. Come take a tour. I know you'll fall in love with the river as well!

Where can can we go in our kayak rental?

In your 2 hour rental you can paddle on the calm waters of the Little Maumelle River. You will hop on the water at our private dock to explore the scenic views between River Mountain Park and Two Rivers Park towards Pinnacle Mountain. You will return to the same location you started so there is no need for shuttle and you will return back to where you started.

What if I have never kayaked before?

No worries! We take more guest that have never kayaked before than professionals. Because of our own private boat launch and the calm waters, we take the time to make sure you are not only comfortable in your kayak but also confident in your kayak or SUP Board before you leave the dock. Your rental includes a fitted PFD, AKA, Personal Floatation Device (Life Jacket) so that even if you can’t swim you will still float if you find yourself outside of your kayak. Because of the stable kayaks we use we don’t have many accidental swimmers. We offer Sit On Top kayaks that CAN NOT SINK. So if you decide to go for a adventure dip you can crawl back into your kayak and be proud to say you joined the RTRO Swim Team!

What do I bring for a kayak rental or tour?

Your rental or tour includes a life jacket, paddle and kayak as well as a waterproof phone case. So bring your phone for those perfect Instagram pics. (Just make sure you tag us!) Wear comfortable clothes that you don’t mind getting splashed. We allow water bottles and snacks but leave the Yeti Coolers behind. Please stay hydrated but realize that you will be in a kayak and not a canoe so there is not enough room for large coolers. Please do not bring any coolers or bags that you would not want in your lap during your 2 hour rental. Of course you can keep personal belongings in your car but we offer a safe place to keep car keys, wallet or purses so you don’t have to worry about bringing them on the water.

What are the age requirements?

For safety and according to RTRO insurance policy we can take anyone above 16 years of age in a single kayak and anyone above 11 years of age in a tandem kayak for our tours and rentals. Anyone below the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult for rentals and tours. Ask about our Family Days for anyone younger than 11 years of age! For a safe and enjoyable experience YOU MUST tell your guide if you have any health or heart problems before you book with us. Help us keep you safe.
